How to choose a security agency

Six questions to ask before you sign a security contract.

Choosing a security agency is not a decision to make on price alone. The difference between two quotes usually lies in what they do not say.

Does the agency hold a valid licence?

Private security is a regulated activity in North Macedonia. The agency must hold a licence and every officer an identity card. Ask to see them — a serious agency shows them without hesitation.

How is risk assessed?

A quote given over the phone, without a site visit, is guesswork. A proper assessment covers the premises, operating hours, movement of people and any existing technical protection.

How will you be kept informed?

Insist on a clear reporting agreement: daily reports, immediate notification of incidents, and a named contact available at any hour.

What happens when an alarm triggers?

Ask who receives the signal, how quickly a patrol arrives and what it does until police arrive.

Is the staffing resilient?

Illness and leave are inevitable. The agency needs enough trained officers that no shift goes uncovered.

What does the price include?

Ask for a written specification: officer numbers, hours, equipment, patrols and maintenance. The lowest price often includes the least.
